November 7, 2006 - GarageRockRadio Podcast, Volume 4!

Finally - Podcast 4!
Volume 4 has 4 songs on it and runs for 15 minutes and 14 seconds. It's just under 14 MB in size and is in MP3 format encoded at 128kb/second. The sound is NOT CD quality; if you hear a song you like, it's probably on a CD compilation somewhere. My voice sounds better on this one because I'm now using a nice noise-cancelling mic. I also used a better quality version of my outro bed and I let it play for longer than I usually do. I've had requests to hear more of the outro song, so I let it go for about 90 seconds this time.

Here are the songs in the Podcast:
It's The Same All Over The World - Squires
Tears Tears - Decisions
Echoes - Lord And The Flies
You Are Your Only Mystery - Baroque Monthly

We have just added 2 NEW MP3s to our MP3 page!!! Once again, we have created a complete web page for each song, as we did with "Games" by The Nova Local. There is some commentary on the song, the LYRICS, and some links for more information.

The first New Song is "I Hope You're Proud" by Bo Allen, from the 11/13/05 Teenage Wasteland show. It's a mid-60s Garager from Georgia. This toe-tapper features a cool guitar riff over simple organ, bass guitar and drums. The vocals are strong and clear. Listen to it; we know you'll love it!

The second New Song is "Through My Eyes" by The Creation, from the 11/20/05 Teenage Wasteland show. This song was recorded in 1967 in the UK. The band sounded like the early Who but this one is psychedelic. It features trippy vocals over guitar, bass guitar and drums. The background vocals seem to be female. Get out the Black Light Posters and Incense and Groove to this Garage MindRocker!

We have already recorded 2 MORE MP3s for our site! Check back in the coming weeks for New MP3s. In the meantime, visit our new Bulletin Board Site - Garage Rock NOW! - and enjoy reading and making Posts.

Have a great holiday season!

What Is On This Web Site?

Habla Espanol? Traduccion en Espanol aqui!

This web site is about 1960s Garage Rock music, the Radio shows that play it, and the new bands that are influenced by it. There are several radio shows that play Garage music. Right now, we will be discussing three popular ones, Bill Kelly's Teenage Wasteland, Little Steven's Underground Garage and WNYU's Plastic Tales from the Marshmallow Dimention. Our MP3 page contains selected songs from recent editions of these shows that I especially like. On this page (right above here), we provide a Google powered search engine for this site and a Guestbook where you can leave a comment! The News And Reviews section, further down on this page, has News about Garage Radio and Garage Bands and reviews of Teenage Wasteland and Underground Garage shows from 2003 (The latest News is at the TOP of this page). After that is a Search section, where you can search through show playlists. There is a Links section after that, followed by our Store section where you can click through to Barnes & Noble or Amazon.com and buy Garage Rock products. Here are links and some general information for each of the three radio shows we cover:

Teenage Wasteland (TW)

Bill Kelly has been hosting this show since the 1970s, it is the longest running Garage Rock radio program. The program airs on WFMU 91.1 FM, New York, on Sundays from 3 PM to 5 PM. All the shows from the last few years have been archived on the web at http://wfmu.org/playlists/TW. The older shows can be played using a Real Audio player and are streamed at 20K but the quality is very good. As of November 24, 2002, the 2 most recent shows are also archived in a 96K MP3 file playable by Windows Media player or any MP3 player (now it's 128K, great sound!). Bill plays a wide range of what he calls "Reeeeeeeal Rock and Roll". He'll play a few Doo-wops, a good amount of 60s Garage, some 70s Punk, and Garage type bands from the 70s through today. He also adds some novelty records and a few odd hits from the past. Bill gives titles and artists after each set, which usually consist of 3 to 6 songs. There are no commercials in the shows.

Bill mentioned this web site ON THE AIR on his 3/9/03 Marathon show! Thanks, Bill!!! Click HERE to hear what he said about THIS WEB SITE!

Underground Garage (UG)

Little Steven Van Vandt (guitarist for Bruce Springsteen among others and actor on HBO's The Sopranos) began broadcasting this show on April 7, 2002. The program airs on many classic rock stations throughout the country on Sunday nights for 2 plus hours starting at 10 PM or 11 PM. All the shows have been archived on the web at the link above. The shows were playable by Windows Media player but now they use Flash Player which has better quality sound. Steven plays Garage from the 60s to today, each show usually has a theme. He'll play some Girl groups from the 60s, some hit songs, a psychedelic set and usually one Bruce Springsteen song. Steven gives titles and artists after each set and tells some very interesting stories about bands or sub-types of Garage music. Some commercials from the show are in the archives.

The Underground Garage is now available 24/7 on Sirius/XM radio. It is channel 25 on Sirius and 59 on XM. Here's a link to the Sirius Underground Garage website.

Plastic Tales (PT)

This show has been on the air since 1982 or 1983, originally as "Mod Monday". Experience it every Monday from 8:30 PM to 10:30 PM (YES! Now its on for a full 2 hours!) on WNYU 89.1 FM in New York City or Listen Live Online, hosted by the Pied Piper. At the moment, 2 shows are archived on the web site in MP3 and 52 are in Real Audio, half of those in a decent streamrate of 64.7K, the rest at a sub par 20K. This is the show that got me interested in Garage Rock! I've been taping the best songs from it since September 1983! Originally "Mod Monday" played Garage and Soul from the 60s. Early DJs included Captain Weems and The Little Red Rooster. In 1998, the switch to Plastic Tales dropped Soul and added Psychedelic music. As I write this, I'm listening to the 09/16/02 show at 64.7K. Go to the Real Audio Archive link and listen to this show NOW!!! It's 77 minutes of Great 60s Garage!

Why This Web Site?

This web site was created to review the music played on Garage Rock Radio. Right now we are concentrating on just the 3 programs mentioned above. In particular, we will focus on the true original Garage Rock from the 1960s. Only 20% to 40% of what is played on these shows is from the 60s. What we intend to do is put the best songs from these shows on this site in MP3 format. These MP3 files are recorded directly from the air or from the web archives. The quality is not as good as it would be from the original CDs or records. We do NOT copy ANY songs from CDs and put them here. We encourage you to buy the original CDs or albums that have these songs on them. If you want to buy them on-line, follow some of the links we've provided on this page. Thanks!

We've also been reviewing CDs from new bands that are influenced by 1960s Garage Rock. If you have a band that plays '60s sounding music, email me and I'll tell the world about it on our Garage Rock Radio BLOG.
